Giancarlo Stanton is out for the season with a groin injury, Miami Marlins manager Don Mattingly announced on Sunday.
Stanton was injured on the final play of Saturday’s 8-7 loss to the White Sox when he tried to stretch a single into a double.
Stanton was 3-for-5 in the game with a home run and three RBIs to break out of a slump.

Stanton finishes the season with a .244 batting average, 25 home runs and 70 RBIs. This is the fourth time in the last five seasons that the outfielder will miss significant action due to injuries. Last season he played in 74 games. He played in just 116 games in 2013.
