Grady Sizemore homers in first game since 2011 (Video)
Remember Grady Sizemore? The former Cleveland Indians star plays for the Boston Red Sox now. From 2005-2008, Sizemore was one of the best all-around players in baseball. Since then, he has undergone surgeries on his knee, elbow, back and then some. Saying that Sizemore’s road to recovery has been long would be an under statement. Against all odds, he made the Red Sox roster out of spring training.
Sizemore beat out promising young center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. to win the center field spot. In his first MLB game since July 17, 2011 on Monday, the 31-year-old went 2-for-4 with a solo home run. It was his first home run in 991 days.
The Red Sox ended up losing to the Orioles, but it must have felt great for Sizemore to be able to prove Boston manager John Farrell right — even if only for a day. Can he stay healthy? That remains to be seen, and history says he will not. If he does, Sizemore would easily be one of the best comeback stories we have seen in sports over the past decade.
