Harold Reynolds not a fan of carry-over streaks like Whit Merrifield’s
MLB analyst Harold Reynolds is not a fan of carry-over streaks like the one Whit Merrifield is working on for the Kansas City Royals.
On Monday, Merrifield had two hits in the Royals’ 13-5 loss to the Seattle Mariners. Merrifield has now hit safely in all nine games this season. He concluded last season by hitting in 20 straight games.
Combined, Merrifield has hit in 29 straight games, putting him one shy of tying George Brett’s franchise record for a hitting streak.
Speaking on DAZN’s “ChangeUp” show, Reynolds explained why he is not of fan of considering it all one streak.

People will have mixed feelings about the matter, and I’m sort of with Reynolds on this. If it’s a different year, a completely new season, it’s hard for me to consider a streak a streak. That’s not to say what Merrifield is doing isn’t impressive, nor is it to say it’s easier to do a carry-over streak. To me, it’s just a matter of different year, different season, you close the book on the previous one. And that would apply to Chris Davis’ bad streak as well.
