Hyun-Jin Ryu making adjustments to delivery amid slump
Hyun-Jin Ryu has hit a particular rough stretch of the season, and it’s taking him back to the drawing board with regard to his delivery.
JP Hoornstra of the OC Register reported on Wednesday that the Los Angeles Dodgers ace threw a bullpen session between starts this week to iron out issues in his delivery, noting that such sessions are particularly rare for Ryu.
“It came to my attention that there was a little alteration to my delivery the last couple starts,” the All-Star lefty was quoted as saying through his interpreter. “So I just wanted to make some adjustments.”
Ryu has been horrific over his last three starts, giving up a total of 18 earned runs and failing to make it past the sixth inning in any of them. While he was so dominant over the first three-quarters of the season that his ERA for 2019 is still an MLB-best 2.35, this latest stretch is probably bringing back some bad memories for him of getting clowned in last year’s playoffs.
