Jake Arrieta pitches no-hitter against Dodgers (Video)
There had been five no-hitters in Major League Baseball this season. On Sunday, Jake Arrieta made it six.
The 29-year-old Arrieta went the distance, allowing just one walk while striking out 12 (including all three batters he faced in the ninth inning), as the Cubs won 2-0 on Sunday Night Baseball.
Arrieta picked up his major league-leading 17th victory of 2015 and became the first Cubs pitcher to throw a no-hitter since Carlos Zambrano on September 14, 2008 versus the Astros. It was Arrieta’s first career no-hitter. For the season, Arrieta has pitched to a 2.11 ERA and has recorded 190 strikeouts over 183 innings.
After the game, Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis congratulated Arrieta on his dominant outing.
Congrats Jake. Always tip your hat when someone is that dominant. Still a great series win vs playoff caliber team. On to the Giants.
