James Shields on giving up Bartolo Colon home run: ‘Next question’
Bartolo Colon belted his first career home run on Saturday night, and James Shields was responsible for serving it up. Rather than laugh off giving up a big fly to a 42-year-old who is one of the worst hitting pitchers in baseball, Shields seemed somewhat embarrassed.
When asked what pitch he threw to Colon, Shields quickly responded that it was a fastball. The San Diego Padres pitcher then refused to answer a follow-up question about it.
James Shields:
Q: What was the pitch to Colon?
"It was a fastball, man."Q: Were you surprised to see him hit a HR?
"Next question, man."— Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) May 8, 2016
You can see a video of the home run heard ’round the world here.
Nobody wanted to be the guy to give up a homer to Colon, but you have to man up. Shields could have been a little less cranky.
