Ex-MLB World Series champion’s horse wins Belmont Stakes
Dornoch won the 156th running of the Belmont Stakes on Saturday at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York, and the victory turned a former World Series champion into a horse racing champion owner.
Jayson Werth, who was an All-Star with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2009, is a part-owner of Dornoch. The 6-foot-5 Werth, who was wearing a big hat and has long hair, stood out among the crowd at the track.

Werth won the 2008 World Series as a member of the Phillies. He said winning the Belmont Stakes as an owner is as rewarding as winning the World Series as a baseball player.
“I would put it right up there with winning with the biggest stage. Horse racing is the most underrated sport in the world bar none. It’s the biggest game … this is as good as it gets in horse racing; it’s as good as it gets in sports,” Worth told FOX Sports reporter Charissa Thompson.

Dornoch had 17-1 odds entering the race, which was the highest odds for a Belmont Stakes winner since 2011.
