Jazz Chisholm blows off reporters after his Game 1 benching

Jazz Chisholm was in no mood for pleasantries following his team’s Game 1 loss.

The New York Yankees infielder Chisholm found himself out of the starting lineup for Tuesday’s AL Wild Card Series opener against the rival Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium in New York, N.Y. Chisholm was benched at second base in favor of Amed Rosario as the Yankees eventually went on to lose by a 3-1 final score.

While Chisholm did enter the game as a defensive replacement in the eighth inning (and also got an at-bat in the ninth), he was definitely in his feelings afterwards. Video went viral of Chisholm in the locker room with his back turned to reporters as they attempted to interview him.

Here is the video of Chisholm completely blowing off the media and only offering short one- or two-sentence answers to their questions.

The move to bench Chisholm was likely matchup-based. Garrett Crochet, the Game 1 starter for the Red Sox, is a lefty, so moving Rosario (a righty) into the starting lineup in favor of Chisholm (a lefty) at least made sense as a platoon move.

But Chisholm has still been one of the Yankees’ best players all year, producing 31 home runs, 80 RBIs, and 31 stolen bases in the regular season (albeit on just a .242 batting average). While Chisholm is fairly prone to errors and mental mistakes, he clearly was not at all happy about being benched for his team’s 2025 playoff opener (which the Yankees ultimately lost to boot).
