Jessica Mendoza named full-time analyst for ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball
ESPN announced on Wednesday that former softball player and two-time Olympic gold medalist Jessica Mendoza is joining the “Sunday Night Baseball” crew as a full-time analyst for the upcoming season.
Mendoza and Aaron Boone will work alongside play-by-play commentator Dan Shulman. Sideline reporter Buster Olney will remain in his current role.
Mendoza replaced Curt Schilling on the “Sunday Night Baseball” broadcast last September after Schilling stirred up some controversy on social media. Schilling has been reassigned to the “Monday Night Baseball” broadcast.
If you remember, Mendoza made history last season when she became the first woman to work as an analyst during a nationally-televised MLB postseason game. Her analysis and knowledge of the game were spot-on, but that didn’t stop one radio host from launching a sexist rant against her. Mendoza handled the criticism with class and accepted the host’s apology.
There are more than a few people out there who would rather listen to Mendoza than Schilling, and you can understand why.
