Orioles legend critical of Manny Machado’s lack of hustle during NLCS
A Baltimore Orioles legend was critical of Manny Machado during Game 2 of the National League Championship Series over the shortstop’s apparent lack of hustle.
During the fourth inning, Machado hit a ground ball to Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Orlando Arcia. Machado did not run out the ball, leading Hall of Famer Jim Palmer to call Machado’s actions “pathetic.”
Once again Manny doesn’t run hard. Down 0-1 in series , 0-0 game in 4th. Too tired to run hard for 90 feet. But wants the big $$ #pathetic @masnOrioles

Machado’s lack of hustle was also noted by Jon Heyman, who pointed out teams are watching with Machado a free agent following this season.
Manny Machado should really try sprinting when he hits the ball in the ss hole. teams are watching.

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has spoken with Machado about his effort previously this season. Machado was also booed while with the Orioles earlier this season for not running out a ground ball.
A perceived lack of effort likely won’t cost Manny Machado free agent dollars. However, it has to be at least mildly concerning that it has continued into the postseason.
