Report: Joe Maddon has already expressed interest in Angels job
There appears to be a lot of mutual interest between Joe Maddon and the Los Angeles Angels.
The Angels fired manager Brad Ausmus on Monday after one season at the helm, and it was widely believed they did so because of Maddon’s availability. Adding evidence to that theory is the fact that, according to Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times, Maddon is interested in the job.
Maddon spent 31 years with the Angels organization before becoming a manager. He has deep ties there, and that will only make the fit seem more obvious.
If Maddon does land the job, it will be quite reminiscent of how he got the Chicago Cubs’ position. They had hired Rick Renteria as manager one year before, and promptly fired him when Maddon became available. It ultimately paid off for Chicago, and the Angels would be hoping for similar success.
