Brad Ausmus fired as Angels manager after one season

Brad Ausmus

The Los Angeles Angels are coming off their worst season in two decades, and it was bad enough to cost Brad Ausmus his job after just one year.

The Angels fired Ausmus on Monday, as first reported by ESPN’s Buster Olney.

Ausmus was just hired by the Angels last October following Mike Scioscia’s resignation. He signed a three-year deal, and the team went 72-90 in his first season. While it is rare for a manager to be fired after just one season, Angels management obviously did not feel good about the direction the franchise was headed under Ausmus.

It also is probably not a coincidence that one big-name candidate the Angels are quite familiar with just became available.

Ausmus managed the Tigers from 2014-2017 before he was hired by LA. He compiled a record of 314-332 during his four seasons in Detroit and was 0-3 in the playoffs.
