San Francisco Giants pitcher Johnny Cueto is closing in on a rehab assignment.
Cueto, who has not pitched since April 28 thanks to a right elbow sprain, is closing in on a return, with a rehab start potentially happening as soon as Saturday.

Cueto is on the 60-day disabled list and can’t be activated until June 29, but it sounds like he might make it on schedule or close to it. It’s also unknown how many rehab starts he’ll need before he’s ready to rejoin the big league rotation.
The Giants just got Madison Bumgarner back, and another key starter is apparently not far behind. If the Giants are going to make a run, it’s going to have to happen soon now that they are getting their pitching back.
