Watch: Tigers’ Jordan Zimmermann hit in head by line drive

Detroit Tigers pitcher Jordan Zimmermann was hit in the head by a line drive during the first inning of Wednesday night’s game against the Cleveland Indians.

Zimmermann looked like he took the line drive off the bat of Jason Kipnis somewhere near the jaw, prompting a scary scene on the field.

Zimmermann stayed down for several moments as he was tended to by trainers, while a deeply shaken Kipnis looked on. Ultimately, the pitcher walked off the field under his own power with no visible blood, but some swelling.

While very scary, situations like this are, unfortunately, not exceptionally rare. Hopefully Zimmermann doesn’t face any ill effects long-term stemming from this.
