Jose Abreu wants to stay with White Sox: ‘I would sign myself’
The Chicago White Sox have finished in fourth place or worse in the AL Central division in each of the past six seasons, but they are finally showing some signs of life. Jose Abreu is one of the primary reasons for that, and the slugger appears to be enjoying himself more than at any other point in his career.
On Wednesday night, Abreu hit a walk-off, three-run home run in the 12th inning to give the White Sox a 9-6 win over the Detroit Tigers. When asked after the game about Chicago finally stringing together some wins, Abreu said he is hoping to stick around next season.
Jose Abreu fired up after walk-off HR. Fired up about #WhiteSox finally winning. “I don’t want to leave. There’s a lot of talent here. I want to stay here. If I was the owner, I would sign myself.”

The White Sox had a rough stretch in the middle of June, but they have won three straight games and five of their last six. Winning both games of their double-header on Wednesday pulled them to within one game of .500 and just five games out of a Wild Card spot. For the first time in a long time, the White Sox have a chance at making the playoffs.
Abreu signed a one-year, $16 million deal with the White Sox before the season. He’s on pace for one of the best years of his career with 20 home runs and 63 RBI at roughly the halfway point. We recently listed Abreu among our top trade deadline candidates, but the 32-year-old is obviously hoping to stay right where he is.
