Jose Iglesias makes incredible catch on David Ortiz blooper (Video)
Detroit Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias has some of the best hands in baseball. He’s a below average hitter for the most part, but the 23-year-old more than makes up for it with his wizardry in the field. That was on full display with the catch he made to rob David Ortiz of a base hit on Thursday night.
Iglesias was positioned on the second base side of the infield, as the Tigers went into their usual shift for Ortiz. Big Papi lifted a blooper to center field on the shortstop side of second base, and it appeared certain that it would land safely in the outfield. Instead, Iglesias went into a full sprint and somehow tracked the ball down, throwing his glove out in front of his body at the last second to make the catch.

Plays like that are the reason the Tigers got involved in a three-team trade that sent Jake Peavy to the Boston Red Sox, a top prospect to to the Chicago White Sox and brought them Iglesias. He’s going to be one of the best fielders in the game for years to come.
