Jose Reyes blasts Matt Harvey over suspension
At least one of Matt Harvey’s New York Mets teammates was quite irked by his team-imposed suspension over the weekend.
After Harvey drew a three-game ban for a violation of team rules and missed his scheduled start on Sunday as a result, Mets shortstop Jose Reyes let loose on the right-hander.
“We’re disappointed,” said Reyes, per Seth Walder of the New York Daily News. “We have to understand, we’re employees. You have to come to your job every day. We count on him.
“Everybody knows here what the rules are,” he continued. “When you miss that, that’s not acceptable.”
Harvey was suspended by the Mets for not showing up to the ballpark on Saturday after reportedly developing a migraine following a morning golf trip, but there’s some dispute between the two sides as to what exactly transpired. Journeyman Adam Wilk drew the start in Harvey’s place on Sunday and was shelled for six earned runs in a 7-0 loss to the Miami Marlins.
Reyes himself hasn’t exactly been a saint over the years, but it’s at least understandable why the Mets might be upset, especially with how thin their roster is right now due to injury.
