Report: Matt Harvey will file grievance against Mets over suspension
Matt Harvey plans to file a grievance against the New York Mets, believing there has been a miscommunication, according to a report.
Harvey was given an unpaid three-game suspension on Saturday, allegedly over not showing up at the ballpark. The pitcher reportedly did not learn of his suspension until he showed up to pitch on Sunday, and according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, he will file a grievance against the team.
Harvey reportedly views the whole thing as a misunderstanding. He played golf on Saturday morning, developed a migraine early in the afternoon, and notified the Mets of the issue before staying home.
As Heyman notes, Harvey was not told of the suspension until Sunday. However, Adam Wilk, who made Sunday’s scheduled start in Harvey’s place, was informed on Saturday, and the Mets told the media that the suspension began Saturday as well.
As has been reported, Harvey and the Mets have very different ideas of how this all went down. It’s no surprise that he’d seek an independent arbitrator in light of that.
