Josh Hamilton filed for divorce from wife Katie around time of relapse
Josh Hamilton reportedly filed for divorce from his wife Katie back in February, which is around the time he relapsed. The timing is likely not a coincidence.
Last month, a report indicated that Hamilton went to a strip club and used cocaine after a fight with his wife. The Dallas Morning News has obtained court documents that show Hamilton filed for divorce from Katie in late February, citing a conflict between the two.
“The marriage has become insupportable because of the discord or conflict of personalities … that destroys the legitimate ends of the marriage relationship and prevents any reasonable expectation of reconciliation,” the documents read.
The documents note that Hamilton has outlined 34 requests in the divorce petition, including that Katie stop “hiding” the couple’s children from him and that “someone who has an intimate relationship with her” be prohibited from staying in the same home as the children overnight. It’s unclear if that indicates that Hamilton suspects Katie was cheating on him.
The couple has reportedly filed a mutual injunction that outlines rules about expenses, interactions with each other and interactions with their children. Court records say Hamilton is forbidden from seeing his children without supervision.
The Los Angeles Times reported on Friday that Hamilton has put his $16.5 million Newport Beach home on the market, which is likely related to the divorce.
Things have obviously not gone well in Hamilton’s personal life this offseason, despite Angels teammate CJ Wilson recently describing his most recent relapse as a “tame scenario” compared to his past history of drug and alcohol abuse.
Hamilton is currently rehabbing from a shoulder injury in Texas. It is unclear if he will be returning to the Angels, as the team has indicated it could take legal action against him and also made this adjustment to the entrance way of their stadium.
