Colorado Rockies designated hitter Kris Bryant provided some alarming details Sunday about the severity of his chronic back injury.
Bryant said he has had shots to try to reduce the inflammation he has experienced in his back, but is never sure how he will feel on any given day. He said he felt fine on Saturday, but woke up Sunday in immense pain and felt nauseated.
#Rockies Kris Bryant said he had "a couple of shots" to relieve inflammation in his back. He's not giving up, the inability to count on feeling good is frustrating. He was exercising yesterday. Today, he could barely move and felt nauseated.

Despite the day-to-day issues, Bryant remains adamant that he does not want to retire, and continues to look for ways to get back on the field.
Bryant was placed on the IL last week with what the Rockies referred to as “lumbar degenerative disc disease.” There appears to be no timetable for a potential return to action, but with a degenerative condition, it is fair to question how much he will be able to play at an effective level moving forward.
Since signing with the Rockies prior to the 2022 season, Bryant has barely stayed healthy. He has hit just .244 with 17 home runs in 170 games, and the situation does not appear to be improving.
The former All-Star certainly seems to have some remorse about his decision to join Colorado even absent the injury issues, and in light of his lack of availability, the Rockies may feel the same way.
