Madison Bumgarner is making progress in his return from a broken hand.

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reported on Thursday that Bumgarner had pins removed from his hand and will begin playing catch in a few weeks. He also says Bumgarner is progressing towards a late May-early June return.

Bumgarner was diagnosed with a fractured left hand after being hit by a line drive during a spring training game on March 23.

The standout pitcher is on the 60-day disabled list and cannot return until May 26 at the earliest.
