Marcell Ozuna had the best catch of Opening Day … or so he thought.
The Miami Marlins center fielder charged in on a line drive in the top of the sixth inning against the Braves on Monday, and he dove for the ball. He thought he made a backhanded catch, but the ball got past him allowing Eric Young Jr. to reach second for a leadoff double. Young later scored the tie-breaking run, and the Braves held on for the 2-1 win. That almost-but-not-quite play by Ozuna was costly for Miami.
Ordinarily we’d tell Ozuna to keep his head up and say he’ll get ’em next time, but this is twice already that he has blown our mind with funny defensive plays. He needs to pick it up!
