Even the Seattle Mariners’ home stadium was not prepared for what Cal Raleigh unleashed on Monday.
Raleigh has been mightily struggling at the plate in the 2026 MLB season, but it felt like 2025 all over again for the Mariners catcher on Monday, as he hit not one, not two but three home runs to help Seattle score a 9-2 victory over the visiting Philadelphia Phillies at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Wash.
After Raleigh’s third home run of the evening, the video board flashed a hilarious message, admitting that there was a shortage in the fireworks supply amid the former Home Run Derby champ’s barrage of dingers.
“CAL HIT 3 HOME RUNS SO WE ARE OUT OF FIREWORKS,” the message read, adding “(NOT SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE.” Here’s a photo of that message, taken by Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times.
Raleigh is having one of the worst seasons ever for a player who had just been an All-Star the season prior. After leading the big leagues with 60 home runs and posting a .948 OPS and a 168 OPS+ in 2025, Raleigh has painfully regressed, as he only has a .618 OPS and 78 OPS+ in 2026 through 98 games.
But he could be turning a corner just in time to help the Mariners in their push for a playoff spot.
After beating the Phillies, the Mariners improved to 63-69, three games behind the top spot in the American League West standings and three games out of the AL’s wild-card picture.
