The Tampa Bay Rays had a 5th inning to forget Monday in their World Series Game 3 clash against the rampaging Milwaukee Brewers.
The Rays were already playing catch-up, trailing 2-0 coming into the top of the 5th inning at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. The inning started innocently enough with a David Hamilton lineout to third baseman Junior Caminero. A Jake Bauers flyout to left field sandwiched a Jackson Chourio single to get Rays starter Freddy Peralta an out away from ending the inning.
It was all downhill for Rays pitching from that point on.
Christian Yelich drew a two-out walk, then beat out the throw on a force play at second base to load the bases, knocking Peralta out of the game. Tampa Bay went to lights-out reliever Cam Booser for a lefty-lefty matchup against Brice Turang. The Brewers star won the face-off with a bullet to center field that went off the glove of shortstop Taylor Walls.

Booser, who entered Game 3 without allowing a single run in the postseason, began to unravel after Turang’s breakthrough single. Garrett Mitchell and Cooper Pratt ambushed Booser with first-pitch hits, plating three more runs. Sal Frelick ended Booser’s night with a ringing RBI double to the left-field corner.

Booser’s replacement, Cole Sulser, didn’t fare much better. Hamilton, who led off the inning with an out, redeemed himself with an RBI single. Jackson Chourio provided the exclamation point with a double into the gap, scoring Hamilton from first.

The final hit was Chourio’s second in the inning en route to a 4-for-5 night at the plate. Bauers mercifully flew out to end the inning two pitches later.
What’s crazy is that the half-inning was thought to have ended without a run scoring, when Caminero threw to second base for the third out during Contreras’ at-bat. Yelich was initially ruled out at second, but Milwaukee challenged the call and won to keep the inning alive.
If Junior Caminero throws this ball to 1B, he likely throws out William Contreras. Instead, he threw it to 2B. Yelich was safe and the Brewers proceeded to score 8 runs with 2 outs. https://t.co/saPlrbvCam

The Brewers recorded seven consecutive hits with two outs in the 5th inning. They became the first team in MLB playoff history to record seven straight hits in any postseason game.
More importantly for Brewers fans, Milwaukee is now a win away from its first World Series in franchise history. After high drama in Games 1 and 2, the Brewers won emphatically in Game 3.
