Report: Mark Melancon getting $62 million from Giants
The first of the big closers is off the free agent market, and he’s getting a whole lot of money.
Mark Melancon and the San Francisco Giants are reportedly in agreement on a four-year deal that will shatter Jonathan Papelbon’s record $50 million closer deal.

Melancon was a high priority for the Giants, whose bullpen was a disaster down the stretch and ultimately cost them in the playoffs. It’s also going to make Kenley Jansen and Aroldis Chapman salivate, as both are set to earn even bigger contracts. $80 million isn’t really out of reach for them, at least.
