Mark Teixeira to retire at end of season
New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is planning to retire at the end of the season.
According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, Teixeira is expected to make the announcement on Friday.
Mark Teixeira expected to announce his retirement later today, at 36, effective at the end of the season.

A report from last month claimed the Yankees were considering releasing Teixeira and another prominent veteran, so this will make the team’s life easier.
Teixeira has had trouble staying healthy in recent seasons, and his production has completely fallen off this year. He’s hitting just .198 with an on-base percentage of .287. It comes as little surprise that he’s calling it a career.
