Report: Marlins agree to deal to acquire Andrew Cashner
The Marlins and Padres have agreed to a trade that will send right-handed starting pitcher Andrew Cashner to Miami.
The news was first reported by ESPN’s Buster Olney.
San Diego already traded starting pitcher Drew Pomeranz to the Boston Red Sox earlier this month, and the team is clearly committed to being sellers heading into the Aug. 1 trade deadline. The Padres also traded Melvin Upton Jr. to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Cashner has been a mediocre pitcher at best over the past several seasons. He is 4-7 this year with a 4.76 ERA after finishing the 2015 season 6-16 with a 4.34 ERA. He hasn’t gotten a ton of run support, but he hasn’t exactly helped himself in many of his starts.
The Padres are likely not done dealing yet. They’ve already expressed interest in trading another player and will probably make more moves before Monday.
