C Martin Maldonado fires Scott Boras over botched free agency
Martin Maldonado hired Scott Boras last year in hopes of cashing in during his free agency. Instead, the move backfired.
Maldonado remains unsigned despite Spring Training being well underway. In hopes of changing his fate, Mark Feinsand reported on Thursday that Maldonado fired Boras and switched agents to Dan Lozano.
Per source, free agent C Martin Maldonado has switched agents from Scott Boras to Dan Lozano and MVP Sports Group.

Maldonado was obviously upset not to have a job at this point. He may have been especially upset by bad advice; The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal says Maldonado turned down a 2-year, $12 million contract offer from the Houston Astros when free agency began.

There are questions about whether Maldonado will be able to land a similar deal at this point. Houston moved on by signing Robinson Chirinos. Kansas City could be a fit with catcher Salvador Perez injured.
This is the second year in a row that a player has seemed to be dissatisfied with Boras’ representation. The agent’s strategy of waiting until teams improve their offers has not been working the last two years.
