The Los Angeles Dodgers scrapped their way to an extra-innings win over the San Francisco Giants on Sunday, and in doing so they were able to improve their record to 3-6 and avoid starting the season quite as badly as the 1976 edition of the team did. While fans may still be concerned heading forward, Matt Kemp is not.
After Sunday’s game, Kemp delivered a great quote to remind people of just how long the MLB regular season is.
“It’s a long season,” Matt Kemp said. “We still have 170,000 games left.”

Kemp may have exaggerated a bit, but it certainly feels like the season lasts a lifetime. Early season is often an indicator of things to come, but there have been plenty of teams that start slow and end up making the playoffs. In fact, the 1976 Dodgers team that began the year 2-8 went on to finish 92-70.
Fans in L.A. are obviously thinking World Series or bust this year after they fell just one win short of a championship last season. While there’s no need to hit the panic button after nine games, some of the struggles star players have had early on are a bit troubling.
