Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer has been one of the best pitchers in baseball in recent years, but he thinks he still has even more to offer.
Scherzer believes there is still more he can improve upon in 2018 — and he intends to try.
“I don’t know. I may be better in 2018,” Scherzer told Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post.
Scherzer wouldn’t go into detail, not wanting to give away secrets, but he thinks he has more room to grow as a pitcher.
“In my mind, the peak is higher,” Scherzer said. “You can see it however you want. I know what’s on my mind.”
It doesn’t matter that Scherzer has already been an excellent pitcher, or that his team may be getting him more help — he wants to improve. If he can do that at age 33 despite winning two consecutive Cy Youngs, that would be something.
