Max Scherzer is set to complete his 19th season in the MLB, and there is a chance that Sunday will be his final game in baseball as the Toronto Blue Jays face the Cincinnati Reds in Canada.
Scherzer pitched on Wednesday in Game 1 of the doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles, going five innings and allowing four runs while striking out seven batters in the 4-2 loss. After the game, Scherzer teased that an announcement about his future could be coming soon.

Scherzer pitched the 2025 season with the Blue Jays, and he returned on a one-year deal late in the offseason. The contract featured lots of incentives for the future Hall of Fame pitcher.
Scherzer is now four strikeouts behind Detroit Tigers legend Justin Verlander for 8th on the all-time list, although Verlander is scheduled to start on Saturday.
Scherzer won’t say what his plans are, at least not right now, and there is a possibility he gives it another go in 2027. Right now, nobody knows, except for maybe Max Scherzer.
