Mets fan goes viral over hilarious custom jersey
New York Mets fans are leaning into the meme.
The Mets faced the San Diego Padres on Sunday for the third and final game of their weekend series. A fan at the game, which was played at Citi Field, went viral for the priceless jersey that he wore to the stadium. The jersey read “Grimace” with the number 55.
Mets reporter Mike Janela shared the great photo.

That is a reference to the mercurial McDonald’s character Grimace (of Grimace Shake fame). Grimace notably threw out the ceremonial first pitch for the Mets’ game against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday.

The Mets, who have struggled for most of the season, went on to win that game against the Marlins … as well as every single game since then. They also finished off the series sweep of the Padres with an 11-6 victory on Sunday, bringing them to a perfect 5-0 ever since Grimace’s first pitch.
With those kinds of results, it is no wonder that Mets fans have begun to worship at the altar of the almighty Grimace. The fans have obviously been through a lot this year, but it looks like a purple fast-food mascot may be the one to finally lift the team out of their sorrow.
