Miami Marlins get in on ‘Back to the Future’ day

Miami Marlins Back to the Future

October 21, 2015 is the day Marty McFly went back to the future in the wonderful classic, “Back to the Future II.” It was during this day in 2015 that Marty picked up the sports almanac that led to Biff Tannen building his fortunes — something Marty had to do undo in order to change history. It was also on that day that we learned one particular sports result that left viewers in disbelief. A newsflash stated that the Chicago Cubs won the World Series, beating Miami:

Though Miami did eventually get a baseball team (they did not have one when the movie was made), the Marlins have been a National League team and therefore could not have faced the Cubs in the World Series. But the movie looked like it had a chance to produce a semi-accurate prediction when the Cubs reached the NLCS before falling to the New York Mets.

Unfortunately Christopher Lloyd will not have a chance to throw out the first pitch of the World Series as he hoped, but we still love the way the sports world nearly unfolded the way the movie so cleverly predicted. Even more than that, we love that the Marlins got in on the joke by changing their social media logos and profile backgrounds to reflect the movie. Well done, Miami.
