Mike Trout to wear elbow pad after being hit so much

Mike-Trout

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout was hit in the elbow by a pitch during the first inning of his team’s 10-2 win over the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night. It was the third time in two weeks that Trout has been hit in the left elbow, and he’s had enough.

In the top of the second, Trout strolled to the plate wearing an elbow pad.

“I don’t like wearing guards or anything, but when you start getting hit in the same place three times it’s time to put a guard on,” he explained after the game, per Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register.

Did the extra padding bother Trout? It certainly didn’t appear to, as he immediately blasted his 22nd home run of the season — a three-run shot that gave the Angels an early 8-0 lead.

Trout said pitchers have been making it a point to throw inside against him, so he is planning to wear the pad from now on.

“It’s where they pitch me,” he said. “It’s not a secret.”

We’ve all seen what Trout can do to a baseball when he’s not wearing an elbow pad. If Tuesday was any indication, a little extra padding isn’t going to slow him down.
