Former Major League Baseball player and manager Art Howe has been hospitalized with the coronavirus, he told a Houston media outlet.
Howe, who played for three teams and managed three teams during his baseball career, told KPRC2 in Houston that he began feeling ill on Sunday, May 3 with chills that had him shaking. Howe tested positive for the virus and went into isolation, but when his symptoms got worse, he was taken to the hospital on Tuesday via ambulance.
The 73-year-old former manager has been in intensive care as he recovers. He is slowly improving but needs to go 24 hours without a fever before being released.
Howe has experienced symptoms like fatigue and a loss of taste.
Howe’s longest tenure as a manager came when he led the Oakland A’s from 1996-2002. He was portrayed in the movie “Moneyball” by late actor Philip Seymour-Hoffman.
