Report: Nationals show ‘active interest’ in top available closers
The Washington Nationals are still searching for a solution to their age-old closer issue.
According to Jon Morosi of MLB.com, the Nationals are showing “active interest” in Detroit Tigers closer Shane Greene and Chicago White Sox closer Alex Colome as they try to strengthen for the stretch run.

The added interest comes a day after the Nationals coughed up a late lead, with Tony Sipp and Fernando Rodney combining to give up three runs in the final two innings in an 8-7 defeat to Colorado.
Greene and Colome would both represent clear upgrades. Greene has a 1.22 ERA for Detroit this year, while Colome’s sits at 2.33. Both would help, but the asking price on at least one of them is said to be quite high.
