Watch: Nicholas Castellanos unleashes bat smash after home run
Bat flips are out. Bat smashes are in, at least if you’re Nicholas Castellanos.
The Chicago Cubs outfielder hit his second home run in as many at bats on Friday in a key divisional game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Knowing full well that the ball he’d just hit was long gone, Castellanos spiked his bat against the ground before turning for first base.

We’ve all seen our share of bat flips. It’s an art form in itself, and even the best ones can leave teammates in awe. It’s rare that we see the full-on bat smash, but it illustrates the importance of both the game and the moment for Castellanos and the Cubs. That said, it remains to be seen what the Brewers might think of it.
