Casey Mize is giving the Detroit Tigers a lot of reasons to consider him for the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming MLB draft.
Mize, a 6-foot-3 junior, tied a school record with 15 strikeouts in Auburn’s 4-1 win over Vanderbilt on Friday night. Mize went the distance allowing just four hits, one earned run and no walks. He struck out 15 on 110 pitches, throwing 81 for strikes.
For the season, Mize is 9-2 with 119 strikeouts in 84 innings. He’s allowed just 50 hits and seven walks, showing incredible command. His 17:1 strikeouts to walk ratio is impressive against any level of competition, let alone the SEC.

“He gets a lot of praise and credit, but I think we all agree it’s well deserved,” Auburn coach Butch Thompson said after the game, via AuburnSports.com “Special, special night — 15 strikeouts and no walks. He just shoves the ball in the strike zone.”
In his mock draft released on Monday, MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo had Mize going No. 1 overall to Detroit.
