Report: Padres, Indians discussing Corey Kluber trade

Corey Kluber

The San Diego Padres are clearly interested in moving for a starting pitcher this offseason, and they appear to be trying to acquire the best on the market.

According to Jon Morosi of MLB.com, the Padres and Cleveland Indians are engaged in talks about a Corey Kluber trade. The discussions are serious, though a source told Morosi that the Los Angeles Dodgers should still be considered favorites for Kluber.

The Padres would be willing to part with MLB-ready talent for Kluber. A source said that could include outfielders Manuel Margot and Hunter Renfroe, as well as catcher Austin Hedges.

The Indians are clearly still talking about trading their ace pitcher, and there is wide interest from other teams in making a deal. San Diego, meanwhile, had been discussing another starting pitcher, but they appear to be working harder on a Kluber deal now.
