Pete Crow-Armstrong got an “A” for effort but an “F” for execution during Monday’s game.
Crow-Armstrong was manning center field for the Chicago Cubs in Game 2 of the NLDS against the Milwaukee Brewers. During the fourth inning at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisc., Jackson Chourio broke the game open with a big three-run home run to deep center, giving Milwaukee a 7-3 lead.

A closer angle of the play showed that Crow-Armstrong made an attempt to rob the home run … and made a fool of himself in the process. Crow-Armstrong leaped high at the wall but couldn’t quite get his footing and crashed to the dirt with a thud instead. Making matters even more embarrassing was that the ball didn’t even land anywhere close and bounced off an above ledge instead.

The 2025 All-Star Crow-Armstrong certainly deserves some credit for giving it a go there. But sometimes, you just have to know when to pick your battles.
Still only 23 years old, Crow-Armstrong is one of the brightest young stars in baseball and just produced the Cubs’ first 30-30 season since Sammy Sosa in 1995. But his game still lacks a bit of refinement around the edges, both in the field and on the basepaths as well.
