The Philadelphia Phillies are making a push to secure a National League Wild Card spot, but they just got some bad news on the injury front.
On Tuesday, starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo was placed on the 15-day IL with shoulder inflammation.
Prior to tonight’s game against the Washington Nationals, the Phillies placed LHP Jesús Luzardo on the 15-day injured list (retro to 9/12) with left shoulder inflammation. To fill his spot on the 28-man roster, the Phillies recalled RHP Grant Holman from Lehigh Valley (AAA).

Luzardo was scratched from his scheduled start on Saturday, and now things have taken a bad turn as he heads to the IL.
Luzardo will be eligible to return for the last game of the season, and manager Don Mattingly didn’t rule out him returning and making a start in the playoffs.
Big development: Phillies are putting Jesús Luzardo on the IL. He was not feeling as well as they expected today. The rest is very much unsure. They are not ruling him out for potential postseason start, Don Mattingly said.

It’s a big loss for the Phillies. Luardo has been excellent this season, putting together a 14-5 record with a 2.87 ERA in 29 games, putting him right behind Cristopher Sanchez in those categories.
The Phillies came into Tuesday one gam ahead of the San Diego Padres in the National League Wild Card race, so it will be a tight finish.
