Pittsburgh Pirates to wear 1979 throwback jerseys on Sundays
The Pittsburgh Pirates are getting a lot of attention after unveiling the throwback jerseys they will wear in the 2016 season.
With spring training getting started this month and pitchers and catchers reporting, the Pirates decided to show off some new threads they’ll be debuting. The uniforms feature yellow tops and pillbox hats like the ones the team wore in 1979 when they won the World Series.
“The 1979 uniforms have always been widely popular with our fans and we believe this is the right complement to our existing uniform collection,” said team president Frank Coonelly. “Every season we strive for ways to pay tribute to the great teams of our past. This is a unique opportunity for the organization to recognize the 1979 World Series champions.”

These throwbacks are considered alternate uniforms the team plans to wear during Sunday home games. Though they were unveiled to great fanfare, we probably shouldn’t kill the buzz by saying they made our list of ugliest throwback jerseys in sports.
