Ramon Laureano got ejected so quickly for his disrespectful move

Ramon Laureano slamming his bat

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Ramon Laureano fell victim to one of the quickest ejections of the MLB season on Wednesday after showing up home plate umpire James Hoye.

Laureano was called out on strikes on a borderline pitch to end the sixth inning of Wednesday’s game against the Minnesota Twins at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Md. Clearly frustrated by the call, Laureano flipped his bat up, slammed it to the ground, then threw his helmet down in frustration.

Hoye responded by immediately tossing Laureano, who then turned around and briefly took aim at the umpire’s strike zone.

Laureano may have gotten away with a bat slam or a helmet slam. He was never going to get away with both, even if the call against him was a questionable one.

Laureano does have a history of going off on umpires, sometimes justifiably. His frustrations were likely magnified by the fact that he entered play Wednesday hitting .200 while playing for a team that has struggled and performed well below expectations.

The Orioles’ frustrations did not improve on Wednesday. The team gave up a late lead to lose 8-6, dropping their record to a miserable 15-25.
