The Boston Red Sox made an unsuccessful attempt to sign one of the best outfielders on the free-agent market last winter, and it sounds like they are planning to give it another shot.

The Red Sox are among the teams that have interest in Teoscar Hernandez, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reported on Thursday. Hernandez is also expected to hear from the Baltimore Orioles and others.

Teoscar Hernández is drawing interest from the Red Sox and Orioles in free agency, sources say. Other clubs are involved, too. Baltimore and Boston have similar needs for right-handed power. @MLBNetwork

Hernandez signed a 1-year, $23.5 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers last offseason. He decided to bet on himself by signing a short-term deal, and it paid off. Hernandez played in 154 games for the Dodgers and had one of his best MLB seasons, batting .272 with 33 home runs, 99 RBI and a .339 on-base percentage. He was named an All-Star for the second time in his career.

Hernandez also helped the Dodgers win a World Series with 3 home runs and 12 RBI during the postseason.

Though he has said his preference is to remain in L.A., Hernandez is 32 and probably wants a long-term deal now.

It will be interesting to see if Hernandez is willing to negotiate with the Red Sox again. He openly criticized Boston back in July for low-balling him, though he did say he loves playing at Fenway Park.
