Red Sox reportedly acquire Chris Sale from White Sox

The Boston Red Sox reportedly acquired left-handed starting pitcher Chris Sale from the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Red Sox will send starting pitcher Michael Kopech and infielder Yoan Moncada — two of the top prospects in Boston’s farm system — to Chicago in addition to two other prospects.

The Washington Nationals were also said to have serious interest in Sale, but the Red Sox offered the best package of minor league talent.

Sale went 17-10 in 32 starts last season and finished with a 3.34 ERA. The 27-year-old has a career ERA of 3.00 and has been named an All-Star in each of his last five seasons.

While the lowlight of Sale’s 2016 season was an embarrassing clubhouse incident, he is easily one of the best starting pitchers in baseball. If David Price can bounce back and Cy Young Award winner Rick Porcello duplicates his performance from last season, the Red Sox should have a fantastic starting rotation.
