The Boston Red Sox aren’t going to get desperate after missing out on one of their big free agent targets.

Despite previous target Carlos Beltran reportedly agreeing to terms with the Houston Astros, the Boston Red Sox will not begin a pursuit of Edwin Encarnacion, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

There was some thought that Boston might get a bit more urgent in their search with Beltran off the board. It had been previously reported that the Red Sox were unwilling to give Encarnacion the long-term commitment that he’s seeking in his next deal, which made someone like Beltran very appealing to them. For the moment, though, they’re sticking to their original plan, though it’s unclear what alternatives they’ll seek.
