Report: Edwin Encarnacion unlikely to land with Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox are seeking a designated hitter, but Edwin Encarnacion sounds unlikely to be the fit.
According to Rob Bradford of WEEI, a source indicated that the Red Sox “probably” would not sign Encarnacion, with whom they’ve been linked repeatedly.
Boston, it is said, is looking for a more short-term commitment in their efforts to replace David Ortiz. Encarnacion will be expecting a longer, more expensive deal, and the Red Sox would likely prefer someone like Carlos Beltran who could be had on a shorter contract.
This is roughly in line with what we’ve heard all month now. On paper, Encarnacion is a strong fit for Boston, but his contractual demands don’t appear to line up with what they’re willing to give.
