The Boston Red Sox have not won anything in over a half-decade and are currently in the midst of a sub-.500 season. But that did not stop them from taking a visit to the White House this week.

On Thursday, the Red Sox as a team paid a visit to President Donald Trump in the White House. Special Assistant to the President and Communications Advisor Margo Martin shared footage of the team’s visit over social media.

Fans immediately had questions about the visit by the Red Sox. They are not the defending MLB champions and are currently a fourth-place team to boot. Take a look at some of the incredulous reactions that resulted.

why is a team that is 43-45 at the White House?

What did they win?

I really love the Bo Sox , but why are they there? Are random sports teams just showing up now?

Why is Boston Red Sox in Oval Office? Dodgers won the World Series last year.

A theory emerged online claiming that the footage was actually from the Red Sox’s visit to the Trump White House in 2019 after winning the 2018 World Series. But that theory was quickly debunked as several players who only recently joined the Red Sox (such as Abraham Toro and Wilyer Abreu) were visible in the clip.

All that said, the Red Sox are currently in Washington D.C. ahead of a three-game weekend series against the Washington Nationals. Thus, the likeliest explanation is that they spent their off-day on Thursday doing some sightseeing and ended up getting a visit to the White House to meet the President somewhere along the way.

As for the defending 2024 champion Los Angeles Dodgers, they took their own official visit to the Trump White House in April of this year. Not all members of the roster were in attendance though, including one Dodgers player who had a shady social media post after skipping the visit.
