Cincinnati Reds outfielder Blake Dunn was hit in the head with a fastball on Tuesday night, but the frightening play somehow did not chase him from the game.
The Reds were trailing 5-3 with two outs in the bottom of the 9th when Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase drilled Dunn in the helmet with a 101-mph fastball. Dunn briefly went to his knees before casually tossing his bat, removing his elbow pad, and walking down to first base.
Holy crap.
And, somehow Dunn stayed in the game. pic.twitter.com/XXoxYRe7K8— Rob Friedman (@PitchingNinja) June 12, 2024
Dunn remained in the game and represented the tying run at first base, but TJ Friedl lined out to shortstop to seal the 5-3 victory for Cleveland.
We haven’t someone eat a baseball to the head like that since an LSU fan was nailed with a home run earlier this season.
