Report: Roberto Osuna could face major suspension over assault allegation
Toronto Blue Jays closer Roberto Osuna could face a significant suspension amid reports that his alleged assault was of a physical nature.
Osuna was arrested and charged with assaulting a woman early in May, and the Blue Jays have had him on administrative leave since then. According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, those familiar with the case call it “serious” and of a physical nature, though Osuna denies wrongdoing.
Heyman notes that physical assault has been met with firm punishment from Major League Baseball in the past. Hector Olivera, who was convicted of assault, received an 82-game suspension, while Aroldis Chapman was hit with a 30-game ban for lesser actions. MLB has also taken action even when charges were dropped, which means Osuna could be in big trouble no matter what the Canadian authorities decide.
